Overview
Wyatt Mills (b. 1991) lives and works in Downtown Los Angeles. Combining abstract expressionism and modern notions of Americana, Mills examines western influence, the human condition, and interpersonal strife. Stylistically ambidextrous, he intertwines immaterial shapes and tangled limbs to create intentionally flamboyant mayhem. Working on multiple pieces at once, Mills often destroys, reinvents, and covers the same canvas a multitude of times before achieving the desired translation. By producing impressions of the oddly familiar, glamorized irrelevance that surrounds us, Mills presents an iconoclastic study on modern desensitization to a fast paced zeitgeist and its impact on the collective psyche. After earning a BFA in painting from The School of Visual Arts, Mills relocated to Los Angeles, then studied painting at the Berlin Institute of Arts in Germany. His work has been exhibited throughout California and in New York, Miami, Berlin, Paris, and Hong Kong.
