Overview
Allison Lu Wang (b. 1994) lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. Pulling imagery from personal photos, magazines, and coffee table books, Allison builds personal paradises and portals into new worlds. Her artistic process involves hand making collages with both created and collected materials, digitizing them, printing them onto fabric, and applying oil paint to canvas. It was Allison’s move from New York to Los Angeles that would stimulate her implementation of bright color and flora into her work. Inspired by her newfound place of residence, Allison’s paintings, installations, and mixed-media pieces merge iconic Hollywood landmarks with the natural landscape.Toying with both space and time via fragmented images that, when stitched together, offer a more complete picture, Allison’s pieces operate much like memories. A dreamlike blend of print, paint, and fabric, Allison’s canvases are a testament to her background in fashion design, which gave her an expertise in balancing different elements and materials. Allison received her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2016 and was recently a designer at several luxury fashion houses. Her work was recently featured in a solo exhibition at Lowell Ryan Projects and a group exhibition at Maison Lune in Los Angeles.
