Biography
Samuel Richardson (b. 1998, Richmond, VA) is a multidisciplinary artist focused on collecting, reworking, and reorganizing materials, images, and ideas. He is drawn to objects and visuals with a sense of history—an old matchbox, a found photograph, a rusty bolt found on the ground. Though diverse in process and style, Richardson’s practice is rooted in physical and conceptual collage. In his paintings, fragments of personal fixations and collective memories are reworked anew, resulting in spaces that mirror the landscape of memories or dreams. His work reflects a curiosity about how things connect, disassemble, and reassemble, inviting viewers to engage through instinct, memory, and personal association. Richardson earned his BFA in Sculpture from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2020. His work has been included in exhibitions at 1708 Gallery, Pamplemousse Gallery, Eden Airlines Gallery, Quirk Gallery, The Branch Museum (Richmond, VA), Art on a Postcard (London), ISETAN and Pacifica Collectives (Tokyo), TW Fine Art (West Palm Beach), Soft Times Gallery (San Francisco), Mama Projects (New York), and Fir Gallery (Beijing), among others. His work is included in private collections across Beijing, Connecticut, Los Angeles, New York City, Palm Beach, and Virginia.
